What is Therapeutic Yoga?
Therapeutic Yoga is Yoga, however there are subtle differences between taking a regular yoga class and a therapeutic yoga class. The average yoga class may have a different intention or be more fitness minded. In the average Hatha, flow, or power yoga class there will be 60+ postures to move through. In a therapeutic yoga class you may move through 6 - 12 various techniques. Notice how I said techniques? The meditation may be one of the 6 - 12 techniques, the pranayama (breath work) is another, each posture or mini flow is another! In this style we take time to notice how each technique felt for us. As a instructor I am checking in with you along the way. When you take a therapeutic class with me, I like to take the time to educate you on your body and the practice. This way you can cultivate a deeper awareness about what your doing, how to do it as well as understand how the class working towards your mental and physical health goal.
Why do therapeutic yoga?
Everyone comes to therapeutic yoga for a different reason, perhaps you have a health condition or chronic pain. Perhaps you struggle to sleep at night or experience frequent anxiety. In a therapeutic setting we craft the practice with you as a whole person in mind. Every aspect of you is considered; your physical, mental and emotional health. The class is structured in a way that we are able to offer you a practice that is not only going to avoid contraindicated techniques, the practice is going to support you in reaching your health & wellness goals.
